Would It Be Ok If I Called The Attorney General’s Office To Make Sure That A Company Existed In That State?

I am getting “hired” to work for a company in another state. I am a bit suspicious for some reasons, so I want to make that this company is legitimate. Is it necessary to call the Attorney General’s Office to make sure or would I be bugging them?

In many states, this information is available on-line from the Secretary of State’s office. But you could call the AG office and ask about consumer complaints against the company. I don’t think they will be angry with you, though you may have a hard time trying to find the right person. Ask for the consumer protection division.

that really isn’t the AG’s job, try a websearch for “(state) corporation division business entity search”
most states have an online database of all the corps in the state, but don’t forget that some corps operate under assumed names and for those you might have to contact the county clerk

You want to contact the state Comptroller, not Attorney General. Most states have a free online search.
