I was wondering how you get power of attorney in case I get sick and don’t want to be on life support after a certain amount of days if there is no hope. I am married but I want to give power of attorney of me to my parents. I would also like to know how to make my parents legal guardians of my children if both of us die. How do I do that? Thank you.
Go to a solicitor.
You have to sign documents giving Power of Attourney and Guardianship over to your parents.
Make sure you word them to your requirements, the solicitor can help with this.
Remember to include the words “in the event of…” (death, serious disabling injury, etc) or you will be signing IMMEDIATE power over!
Be careful about your definition of “no hope” & discuss this with your parents at every step.
You can also get a DNA (Do Not Resussitate) agreement put on your medical records – again being careful to word your conditions – this will prevent them trying to bring you “back to life” in certain circumstances, say if your quality of life was extremely diminished.
This is about as near as you can legally get to Voluntary Euthenasia.
Both documents — the power of attorney and the guardianship papers, require an attorney to draw them up. Make an appointment to go in and see one and tell him what you want.
you need to go to a solicitor and both sign over responsibility to your parents, this would be witnessed, maybe you should look at doing your will as well
