I’ve gotten myself into a lawsuit and I’ve calculated the cost of the lawyer and the maximum money I would get and they pretty much even out. I’ve decided not to get an attorney because I really need the money. If I can’t do this please answer me. If you could explain why I must have an attorney I would appreciate it.
The old saying is that a man who represents himself has a fool for a client. And it’s true.
You don’t know how to write a motion or any other pleading. You don’t know how to conduct legal research or properly use case law or statutes. You don’t know how to comply with discovery requests, or to make discovery requests of the other side. You don’t know what your burden of proof is. You don’t know how to examine witnesses.
You have the RIGHT to represent yourself. Your court might have a pro se help center, or there might be attorneys locally who are willing to advise pro se litigants. Think carefully before you go wading in deep waters.
