Can An Uncompensated Volunteer Power Of Attorney Be Held Responsible?

I volunteered to be an elderly woman’s Power of Attorney so that I could help her in writing out her checks to pay her bills. I am not compensated for helping her write checks. But, she seems to feel that because i am her Power of Attorney I must take care of all of her problems and be responsible when things go wrong.

Can An Attorney Volunteer To Represent Someone Who Is Mentally Unable To Seek An Attorney?

If an attorney is aware that a brain-dead person has been victimized in some way, can that attorney take initiative and represent that person even though not requested to do so? This is purely academic so feel free to be creative with the question and any related variables.
